This year we have a nice balance of wines from new and old world producers. Starting in the old world, we are once again featuring an English Wine, promoting the local Bridewell winery and their 2009 dry white.
From the new world, on the bubbly front, the Jacob's Creek Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir NV from South East Australia is proven as one of the best value and ultra consistent dry sparklers. Staying in the southern hemisphere, Southbank Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010 from Marlborough, New Zealand will get the tastes buds going.
Returning to Europe, southern France is flying the flag for the rose fan club with Château D'Anglès Classique 2009 made by the inspiring winemaker Eric Fabre, who was technical director at Château Lafite Rothchild for eight years.
The Rioja region in northern Spain is renowned for their distinctive oaky reds made principally from the Tempranillo grape. The most popular producer in the UK is Campo Viejo, whose Crianza manages to get the balance of fruit flavours and subtle oak just right.
